Its not the outcome but the process of getting there that counts

Did I say we are going to shun Ikea for the new home project? Let’s now eat our words and lick the bowl clean. Our footsteps are going to print at the store this weekend. Maybe we will buy the customizable wardrobe, tv console, lots of home accessories and of course have some meatballs when we’re there.

The last I know, the tiling of the new place is completed, new white windows are up and the air con is fixed. Next up would be electrical wiring and switches to put on, painting of walls, installing cabinets and doors.. we are almost there!

Can’t wait to see how the whole place turns out to be, to be honest I am feeling kinda jittery but the kitchen is going to be fitted with Ariston gadgets so let’s pray the currently out-of-stock items arrive in time for Christmas.

Note to self: Befriend sarong-dressed, cat-feeding neighbour staying on 2nd floor.

I'm so NOT an ID

After all those research online and reading on renovating, I have learnt this - ID means interior designer. There is no end to abbreviations in Singapore. Everything has to be short cut, but sigh - there is no shortcut to all the work involved in trying to revamp a very old and dingy flat into something of cosy condition.

All the guesswork has been put into works. The hacking has been done and the tiles for toilet is up. Every visit to the work site still gives me the quivers; those tiles are up and this process is irreversible. Whatever is fixed is going to be stuck there indefinitely... This is what you call stress!

My dearest contractor has called to say we HAVE to get the toilet bowl, sinks, water heater, stove, hood etc delivered asap to be fixed on. Every item is a decision process.

Then i remember, our flat is just a 2 bedroom, how do those people with huge houses and a garden cope doing it all with a contractor themselves??

Pray this project is as smooth as silk, this end of year is as exciting as it can get!

Precious Moments

DIY is really not my thing because I am too lazy to get my hands dirty. Wrapping my IKEA compartment unit with sticky flower paper from Daiso is probably the furthest I can go. How do you like it?

When the new place is up, I can imagine my room with a few more of these with different paper designs to brighten up the space and make it all romantic.

Playing Dress-Ups

My hairstylist likes to play dress-ups with my hair. Most of the time, it’s me nagging at him not to use too much hair mud because I am just too lazy to shampoo my hair twice trying to remove it. Last weekend, my usual hair trim (only a trim because I’m trying hard to keep my hair long now!) end up with a sassy style. Like it?

It’s really great to have Alan as my hairstylist. I can definitely count on him with my hair. I would likely be in tears if another hairdresser dare chop my hair into a bob. Hope he never retires! Most importantly, his little girl is cute as a button. And she looks a bit like… me. Wink.

Cutie Zi Xi!

On another note, Pny & Gny are going to Europe in December. Double down for me! I always wanted to visit Europe but I will be stuck with the aftermath of move-in to new apartment. But Juan will be back in Sp/Jb in December anyway and I’m sure there will be another chance to do Europe so come to think of it that’s okay!

What's coming up is a whole lot of ..

Just received confirmation that yours truly will be in HK for another round of meeting when September starts fresh. This time Kel's glad he gets to stay home sweet home in Singapore, he is not a fan of HK anyway..

The exciting part for me is there may be a chance I can squeeze some time for shopping in H&M since they did not end up at ION Singapore! What happened??

When there, I may look around for the Canon G10 cam I'm now eyeing for and maybe the summer sale is just about to end so definitely some Nine West shoes as well.

I need to look forward to at least 1 thing on this trip full of meetings. So it has to be shopping.

Check out the mailbox!

Guess what landed in my mail? The new Ikea catalog!!

I don't know about you but i get uber jumpy when I see this. *grin* I will sit myself down on the sofa with my tag flags, peel each page to check out what is new!

Penny bought me Kikki K's flags with tags like Buy it and Love it, cute isn't it? How exciting!

Till last nite, I have gone through the catalog twice to steal ideas for our new flat. Pictures are very important for my contractor to get an idea what I am jabbering about.

But then, my family and I had a discussion and decided we should stay away from Ikea to avoid being "one of those" who stock their home in typical Ikea stuff. I agree and also believe in moderation. Let's see!

Dusting It Off

The last time I set click here was in December? It is amazing how time flies and me not knowing it! I've decided to resurrect this blog now that I am on a little project in dressing up and coming new apartment shared with my sista.

In the midst of researching ideas, going through throngs of decorating magazines, I must say I have a newfound respect for those who do such a good job styling their own pad making it look cosy and yet super chic.

I was at a tile shop with my contractor few days back and that was probably the only time I felt overwhelmed ever since I got thinking how the new place should be renovated.

At first, I totally loved cosy wood paneling, and then when it was to decide if it is engineered wood or solid wood and what colour it would be. Still not too much until homogeneous tiles came by it seems a better option in cooling the room and definitely easier to maintain than wood.

Made sure I kept those thoughts in my head but in that shop, I went blank. It was walls and walls of different homogeneous tiles, fake wood panels, toilet floor tile types, toilet wall tile types, kitchen floor tiles. My world went spinning! Now i am out of my bearings, what should I do?

I still have a strong idea how the end result should FEEL like, I just dont know how it should LOOK like. (If you know what I mean)

The next challenge will be to relearn what was taught in interior design class how to draw a perspective of the new kitchen, the cabinets, stove... and where it should all be for my contractor to understand my jibberish not in word but in picture.

Despite all these, I'm having fun. I love being creative. I love challenging myself, make this work with a budget. I love flipping through those pretty home decor pages and think actually I can do that!

I just wish time was on my side and my brain cells would work after a hectic day in the office.

So I will try my best to keep here posted on my latest discoveries and learning journey whilst still keeping my contributions in DeeryLouAromas alive.

I CAN DO IT!
